"Self-control - mobile phone service providers" under the umbrella of the FSM

With the development of more and more elaborate techniques, the access to complex media services via mobile devices is on the increase. Modern mobile phones can not only display pictures and text-messages, but also entire video clips. GPRS, UMTS, HSDPA and other 3G-standards render possible a comfortable access to complex media content, e.g. via the internet.

Along with the constant further development and the more and more extensive offer of media content, the challenges for an effective youth protection are growing. For this reason, the major German mobile phone companies have signed a Code of Conduct in 2005, in order to further promote and enforce youth media protection.

In summer 2006, E-Plus, O2, T-Mobile, The Phone House and Vodafone D2 have joined the FSM. Our goal is to enforce the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Minors that was signed in 2005 and to seek joint measures in order to ameliorate youth protection in the domain of mobile radio under the umbrella of the FSM. Together, the FSM and the mobile phone companies are intensely seeking further measures and ways to diminish the dangers for children and juveniles and to provide effective youth protection.
